John Thompson, chair of the University of Maine Department of Physics and Astronomy, was named a 2023 Fellow of the American Physical Society.
Thompson was elected as a fellow “for performing seminal research on student use of mathematics in physics and the learning and teaching of thermal physics, for leading interdisciplinary collaborations and conferences, and for leadership in the physics education research community,” according to the organization.
